Our Purpose
Com2Tech stands apart through its unique combination of environmental sustainability, digital equity, and community empowerment. While others focus on recycling or training, we do both—transforming e-waste into low-cost devices and providing hands-on digital support where it’s needed most.
Our Digi-Cycle programme diverts tonnes of tech from landfill and rehomes it to individuals and nonprofits. Our volunteer-led repair model trains young people and job-seekers in IT skills while embedding circular economy values. At the same time, we offer judgement-free digital help to older adults, jobseekers, and whānau through community drop-ins and workshops.
We’re place-based and people-powered—rooted in Dunedin, driven by volunteers, and supported by strong local partnerships. We don’t compete with commercial tech services; we close the gap—offering affordable devices, repair backup, and digital inclusion solutions that work for communities and families, especially in school BYOD contexts.
Com2Tech is more than a refurbisher—we’re a community connector creating real, sustainable change.
ACCESS Connecting our communities through the donation of digi-waste technologies that are still fit for purpose and collaborations for low-cost connections.
MOTIVATION Giving communities access to devices and a means to communicate and join the digital world. Connecting with friends and loved ones, regaining independence and accessing digital career pathways.
TRUST Creating inclusive spaces within communities where anyone can come and trust they will learn digital skills without judgement of their knowledge and skill levels.
SKILLS Creating programmes and support within communities for the upskilling of youth and community members who are finding the motivation to connect. Supporting youth and jobseekers with inclusive and equitable pathways into digital careers. Offering opportunities to gain experience and skills through resourcing our programmes with staff and volunteers.
SUSTAINABILITY Reusing technology extends the life of our digital resources for the use of connecting our communities. We can repair and repurpose as many of these resources as we possibly can before recycling them in the most sustainable manner available to us through our partners. We are utilising these resources to create new systems of sustainability within our communities and a free/low-cost market for digital inclusion supported by our volunteer workshop services
